For the Parents

  • On behalf of the Panhellenic Association at USF, we enthusiastically invite you to learn about more about our community and encourage you to explore the wonderful unique options that membership into a greek organization has to offer. Sororities at USF offer so much to enhance and augment the educational and college experience. Besides the social benefits, our Panhellenic community values the ideals of leadership, scholarship, service and sisterhood.

    Panhellenic will be hosting a

    Parent's Orientation

on August 17th from 3-4 PM!

    Leadership

One of the greatest benefits you can receive from joining a Panhellenic organization is the opportunity for leadership. Sorority women pride themselves on being active leaders on campus being involved in organizations ranging from Student Government and USF Ambassadors to being Orientation Team Leaders and Emerging Leader Institute facilitators. Panhellenic sorority life at USF gives you the opportunity for not only leadership within your chapter but within the Panhellenic Association as well. Women will develop professional skills such as public speaking, presentation skills, motivational and organizational skills that will help make them a success in their future.

    Scholarship

Academic achievement is the number one priority for students in fraternities and sororities. When students join a sorority they become part of a larger group of students who value their academic goals at the University of South Florida. In order to join each chapter, individuals are required to have a minimum grade point average. Once involved with a sorority, members provide more academic support by offering awards, education programs, and other resources members from your same classes may have. Additionally, Panhellenic encourages academic achievement by providing members with the opportunity to get involved in scholastic honor societies including Rho Lambda and Order of Omega. In addition, the all-Panhellenic grade point average has been consistently higher than the all-women’s average, which is primarily due to fraternities and sororities' emphasis on academics.

    Service

Community service and philanthropy are important aspects of fraternity and sorority life. Every sorority does a number of community service hours and has an official charity to raise funds and awareness for. It is safe to say that no other segment of the student population has dedicated more time and resources, or has raised more money for charity than the members of our fraternity and sorority community. From volunteering in regional hospitals and food banks, to giving blood, to raising money for charities such as St. Jude’s, the Ronald McDonald House, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Prevent Child Abuse America, Arthritis Research, Service for Sight, and Breast Cancer Awareness, USF Panhellenic sororities are truly impacting the community. Our members are involved in projects on campus which include but are not limited to Big Brother/Big Sisters, Best Buddies and USF’s annual Stampede of Service. In the past year, the Panhellenic sororities have completed 8633 community service hours. In the past year, the Panhellenic sororities have donated over $108,000 to philanthropic causes!

    Sisterhood

The greatest part about joining a sorority is that it offers you a lifelong membership to a community of individuals who will support you and help you throughout your lifetime. Sisterhood is the ability to make lifelong friendships that separate sororities from any other organization you will find, because among the other countless other things that it offers, it values personal bonds most.

Furthermore, our sororities also have many parent events in which you can participate with your student. They have mother/daughter, father/daughter, events that are always extremely well-attended by both local and out-of-state parents. Many of the sororities also have holiday events, picnics, and various outings that encourage family interaction.

By joining the USF greek community, your student will definitely acquire vital life lessons that will cultivate and nurture the entire college experience. We welcome you to USF and encourage you to investigate our strong, vibrant, and progressive greek community!
